With Federal Student Loan payments starting back up this Fall, stay alert for scammers pretending to be with Student Loan Relief Programs.
Always remember that you do not have to pay for help managing student loans.
There are two key signs to spot these scams:
- They try charging illegal upfront fees
- They offer quick loan forgiveness
The best place to start for repayment is at StudentAid.gov/repay. Here you can find the status of your federal student loans and information on income-driven repayment plans. If your loans are private, go directly to your loan servicer’s website.
If you believe to have spotted a scam, report immediately to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
