Extortion is a crime that occurs when someone threatens to harm or damage someone’s reputation or property unless they pay money or comply with their demands. More specifically, sextortion is a form of extortion that involves the use of sexually explicit material or images to blackmail or extort money from the victim.
If you become a victim of extortion, it is important to take immediate action. Contact FMFCU directly and notify staff of any compromised information that may have been exposed, which will assist in preventing any unauthorized activity on your membership. In addition to this, it is strongly encouraged to contact law enforcement and file a police report. Keep records of any communications or evidence related to the extortion, including phone calls, emails or text messages. Finally, seek support and guidance from family, friends, or professionals if needed.
