July 25, 2008 - FRANKLIN MINT FEDERAL CREDIT UNION HELPS LOCAL HOSPITAL AMBULANCE FLEET RAISE $80,000 FOR NEW EQUIPMENT

Broomall, PA - Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union (FMFCU) and Riddle Memorial Hospital recently raised $80,000 to purchase 12 LEAD Electrocardiogram (EKG) Monitors for the hospital’s fleet of 7 ambulances.

Riddle Ambulance DonationJohn D.Unangst, FMFCU President/CEO, who is also a member of The Riddle HealthCare Foundation Board, offered the hospital a $20,000 Challenge Grant to help purchase this new, life-saving equipment.  Members of The Riddle HealthCare Foundation and Riddle Memorial Hospital Boards were able to respond to FMFCU’s challenge with an additional $60,000 to make the purchase possible.  Each Philips HeartStart Mrx Monitor/Defibrillator costs between $20,000-$25,000.  With this new equipment, when EMT’s  are transporting cardiac emergency patients, they can begin treatment and use these EKG monitors to relay vital information to the Emergency Room and teams of physicians.  This gives the hospital staff valuable time to analyze each patient’s situation while en route, saving up to 30 minutes of time. With the $80,000 FMFCU and the two Riddle boards were able to raise, the surrounding community will now be able to receive better care and lives will be saved.

Riddle has been voted 4 years in a row, the “Best Hospital in Delaware County” by the readers of the Delaware County Daily Times. Employing over 1,900 people, this 230-bed hospital oversees annually 12,500 admissions, 85,000 outpatient visits and 34,000 emergency room visits.  The Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union was voted “Best Bank in Delaware County” by the readers of Delaware County Daily Times as well.  FMFCU and Riddle Memorial Hospital, two of Delaware County’s “BEST”, joined forces for something they both value deeply:  Helping the community.

July 17, 2008 - FRANKLIN MINT FEDERAL CREDIT UNION NAMED CREDIT UNION OF THE YEAR BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FEDERAL CREDIT UNIONS

Broomall, PA - Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union (FMFCU) was recognized during the National Association of Federal Credit Union’s (NAFCU) 41st Annual Conference and Exhibition on July 11 in San Diego, California.  Chosen Federal Credit Union of the Year from among credit unions across the nation having assets of $150 million or more, FMFCU was honored for its educational initiatives, offering members the best financial products and excellent service and giving back to the community.  These attributes, in addition to a strong year of financial performance, including strong membership growth and sound financial management, contributed to FMFCU’s selection.

Winning an award from NAFCU is especially noteworthy because it comes from industry peers. It’s the highest honor bestowed by NAFCU, which represents its members before the federal government and the public as the only national organization focusing exclusively on issues affecting federal credit unions.

This latest recognition now gives FMFCU three great reasons to cheer—within a nine-month period, it has won three prestigious awards.  In addition to being named Federal Credit Union of the Year by NAFCU, the Delaware County Daily Times readers who participated in the newspaper’s annual “Best of Delco” opinion poll voted the Credit Union as 2008’s “Best Bank.”  And, the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce named FMFCU the 2007 Business of the Year.

Taking all three impressive honors in less than one year marks what could be called the first “triple crown” win in Delaware County since 1937, when legendary thoroughbred racehorse, War Admiral won the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont.  Or, as FMFCU President/CEO John D. Unangst put it, “Winning one is good, two is great, but three is spectacular! Any company would be happy with one win, but here we won all three.”

Unangst said the triple win is especially meaningful because the first represents recognition by financial industry peers, the second from consumers and the third by the business community,

Winning the consumer preference award as Bank of the Year in the “Best of Delco” competition is significant as well, he says, because FMFCU beat out three giants in the banking industry:  Wachovia, Citizens and Commerce.  Because the Delaware County Chamber is the largest suburban Chamber in Pennsylvania, and the second only in membership size to the Philadelphia Chamber, the award presented to FMFCU also is significant, said Unangst.

“All the awards validate what we do,” says Mary O. Kennedy, FMFCU Chairperson of the Board. “Our Board of Directors is very proud of each award, of Credit Union staff members and of John.  He’s a tremendous leader.  We have a winning combination of strong leadership and a great staff and membership.”

Education and financial literacy played a large role in these recent awards.   This year, FMFCU introduced the first Delaware County Excellence in Teaching award to honor outstanding, dedicated teachers.  The Credit Union also annually awards the John D. Unangst scholarship to four graduating high school seniors to help further their education and partners with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit to co-sponsor Delco Hi-Q, the oldest continuous high school academic quiz competition in the nation .

FMFCU’s award-winning Partners In Learning program, now in its fourth year has also reached more than 7,000 students and adults through financial literacy lessons during the past year.  FMFCU has a Youth Advisory Board and employs over forty high school students in five student-operated Credit Union branches, where students gain hands on experience.  FMFCU recently formed the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Foundation, a separate charitable foundation to further support educational causes.  In addition, FMFCU presented over 40 educational sessions and workshops to adults that included Internet, Fraud and Identity Theft Awareness, Estate Planning for Seniors, First-time Homebuyers and Understanding Credit.

FMFCU’s commitment to the community goes beyond educational causes.  The Credit Union’s employees annually contribute time, resources and funds to help various local charities.  Among them are the United Way, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Operation Hope and Habitat for Humanity.

FMFCU has been providing financial products and services to residents and organizations throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond since 1970.  Today, the Credit Union has more than 52,000 members, over 1,000 partner organizations, 26 branches, 32 ATMs along with access to over 25,000 through a national ATM network and 24/7 access to member accounts and e-Banking.

“I am pleased to report a 62% increase this year in dollars refunded to residents.  Without help from the volunteer tax preparers, FMFCU Chester Branch staff and those at North Chester Baptist Church, we would not have been able to offer this valuable, helpful service to those who really need it,” says FMFCU Vice President and District Manager, John Greskiewicz.
