RUSSIAN VISITORS RECEIVE WARM WELCOME FROM FRANKLIN MINT FEDERAL CREDIT UNIONBroomall, PA - Through the generosity of the United States Congress, the Library of Congress hosted one of the largest exchange programs in decades this past summer, the 1999 Russian Leadership program. The Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union was chosen as one of the organizational visits for the Russian visitors. The program's participants included approximately 2,000 Russian political and civic leaders. The goal of the Russian Leadership Program was to provide an opportunity for Russian elected officials, political candidates and emerging political and civic leaders to observe the American political system at the federal, state, county and municipal levels and to see how it produces effective, responsive government. The participants were also exposed to American work styles and behaviors within different realms of community and business. At the request of Congressman Curt Weldon, on Tuesday, September 21st, approximately 13 Russians arrived at the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union. After Credit Union officials welcomed the visitors, they were shown a slide presentation that had been translated into the Russian language. They were then given a tour of the Credit Union at which point they were able to ask questions and interact with members of the Credit Union staff. John D. Unangst, President & CEO of FMFCU, along with other Credit Union staff, answered questions and offered advice on credit union products and services. According to Mr. Unangst, "The response we received from the Russian visitors seemed to be very positive. We can only hope that the relations we've established will help them with their goal to develop and strengthen their government and economic systems." |
