John D. Unangst Scholarship

Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union will award five $1,500 John D. Unangst Scholarships to a high school senior who will be attending a full time course of study at an accredited two (2) or four (4) year college, university, trade, technical or business school. This year we will be awarding scholarships to five students. All scholarship recipients will be recognized at the 2010 Partners In Learning Celebration on April 29th, 2010 at the Drexelbrook Corporate Events Center in Drexel Hill, PA.

ELIGIBILITY

You or any member of your immediate family, must be a member of the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union. (Employees/Directors of Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, their affiliates and their immediate families are not eligible.)

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed Application
  • Copy of High School Transcript
  • Essay:
    • Topic: If you could have one “do-over”, what would it be? Why?
    • Limit: Maximum two pages; double-spaced

Your Name, school or school district, must not appear anywhere on or in the body of the essay.

PROCESS

As each essay is received, the application containing the student information will be coded and separated from the essay. A corresponding code will be placed on the essay and given to a committee for judging. The committee is comprised of representatives from the field of education. Essays will be scored based on the following categories:

  1. Content
  2. Mechanics
  3. Style
  4. Originality
DEADLINE

All applications must be received or postmarked by Monday, March 15, 2010. Applications can be dropped off at a branch office or mailed to:

REMINDER: Application must have transcript and essay (without name) attached. NOTE: Due to the volume of applicants, only the selected winners will be contacted. Incomplete applications and/or essays will not be considered.

Partners in Learning® Award

Basis of Award: A student, who is a member of Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, pursuing business studies in a post-secondary institution and exhibits above average academic achievement and service to school and/or community. This award is offered to seniors attending high schools in FMFCU’s field of membership.

Amount of Award: $250

Background: Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union’s Partners in Learning® education program provides hands on financial and business education to partnering schools through in-school seminars, on site student-operated branches, co-operative education, and job shadowing.

In recognition of these partnerships, this scholarship award is presented to one graduating senior in each of FMFCU’s partner high schools.

  • Upper Darby High School
  • Academy Park High School
