In 2006, FMFCU began an annual award program to honor an educator in one of FMFCU's sponsoring schools or school districts. This is appropriately named, the "Financial Literacy Advocate of the Year" Award. To qualify, the educator must have accomplished the following:
  • The nominee’s work has made a significant impact in the area of financial education
  • The quality of financial education has been significantly advanced in the nominee's school as a result of the nominee's efforts
  • The nominee has exhibited outstanding professional qualities in engaging students in financial education
  • The nominee developed a creative and effective teaching strategy for understanding personal finance

FMFCU's first award went to Peggy Wanger, Interboro High School's business teacher. For more information, read the press release.
